We’re used to seeing patent leather on shoes and handbags, but dresses is a bit of a new things.
Not long ago, Lala Anthony and Adrienne Bailon stepped out at two separate events rocking full-on patent leather dresses that have us thinking this is a new trend that could catch on soon. Lala’s was a $3,375 Antonio Berardi Paneled Stretch Crepe Dress from the designer’s Spring 2012 line and Adrienne Bailon stepped out in a dress from designer Laquan Smith’s Robotic Dream collection, also from this season’s runway.
Since Lala’s dress only has patent paneling on the upper half, we think pulling off that look would be easy enough, but wearing this material like Adrienne from shoulder to knee cap looks a tad tricky, especially in the summer heat. The girl look’s hot though—perhaps literally!
Laquan Smith’s line has plenty of other dresses that aren’t quite as practical, but are definitely futuristic. Adrienne’s BFF Julisa Bermudez also got in on the trend and wore the dress seen in the middle below for the designer’s debut, but we think the other two are pretty much NSFW or anywhere else.
